Instruction guide and tips for anchoring posts and poles using Sakrete Rapid-Post

How to Anchor Posts and Poles

Posts and poles are normally anchored with either SAKRETE Concrete Mix or SAKRETE RAPID POST. ln either case, make a master plan before digging. Holes should be between 1 m (3 ft) and 1.25m (4 ft) deep and allow for 5 cm (2 inches) of clearance on each side of the post or pole.

SAKRETE RAPID POST is a pre-blended, rapid setting concrete material. It is designed specifically for fence posts and poles. Pour from bag to hole, add water and agitate with a rod or stick. SAKRETE RAPID POST sets in minutes so no bracing is required and the post can be used after 3 hours.

This product is ideal for rapid setting of fence posts, mailbox posts, basket ball poles, swing sets, and lamp posts.

SAKRETE RAPID POST is not recommended to construct deck posts, walks, floors, slabs or footings.

PROCEDURES: Mix and substrate temperatures should be maintained between 5 °C (40 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) for al least 24 hours prior to and 48 hours after. For temperatures below 5 °C (40 °F), refer to SAKRETE Fast Set.

STEP 1: Hole Preparation: Dig hole with auger or shovel to required depth (hole should extend below the frost line). Allow 5 cm (2 inches) of clearance on each side of post. A typical 10 cm (4 inch) x 10 cm (4 inch) post will require an 20 cm (8 inch) diameter.

STEP 2: Mixing and Placing: Position the post in hole. Fill with SAKRETE RAPID POST and water simultaneously. Add approximately 2.8L (3 qts) of water per 30 KG (66 lb) bag, and agitate with a rod or stick.Align the post using a level and check the vertical position. There is no need to brace. SAKRETE RAPID POST will stiffen almost immediately.Do not rework once the mix has set. ln cold weather, use warm water to accelerate the set. ln hot weather, use cold water to slow the set.

STEP 3: Curing: Allow the newly placed material to set until surface is hard to the touch. Then cover with plastic to prevent evaporation of mixing water. Post can be used after 3 hours.

Tips for working with SAKRETE RAPID POST:
  1. Mix in the hole.
  2. Set post and level (sets in minutes; no bracing required).
  3. Avoid a soupy mix.
  4. Use proper safety equipment (i.e. safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
