How to Repair Asphalt Surfaces
Repair or patch damaged asphalt! Use SAKRETE Asphalt Repair to patch asphalt driveways, walks, parking areas and potholes.
SAKRETE Asphalt Repair is a pre-blended, ready-to-use, cold patch, pot hole repair mixture made of blended asphalts, aggregates and selective additives specifically designed for repairing black-top surfaces.The asphalt is designed to be poured from the bag into the hole and compacted.
Uses
This product is ideal for repairing black-top surfaces 2.5 cm (1 inch) to 10 cm (4 inches) thick, up to an area of 0.4 m2 (4 ft2).
Repair asphalt drives, walks and parking areas that have sunk, wide cracks, pot hales or areas damaged from gas and oil.
This product is not recommended for use on curbs, speed bumps and ramps, or for new driveway extensions.
PROCEDURES: Mix and substrate temperatures should be maintained between 5 °C (40 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) for al least 24 hours prior to and 72 hours after placement. When the ambient temperature is below 15 °C (60 °F), keep bag in a warm environment (20 °C/68 °For greater) for a least 24 hours before using.
STEP 1: Preparation: Chisel out and remove all existing, damaged asphalt, to a depth of 5 cm (2 inches) to 10 cm (4 inches). Square up the area to be repaired, ensuring that all the sides are vertical. Avoid a bird bath shaped edge. Using a stiff broom or brush, remove all loose particles, mud, dust, grass, etc. Remove any unsound portions of the base. Fill deeper hales with grave! to proper depth.
STEP 2: Application: Pour SAKRETE Asphalt Repair into the hole and level to about 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) higher than the surrounding pavement. Thoroughly compact using a hand-tamper. Deep hales should be compacted in layers that are 5 cm (2 inches) thick or less. Final repair should not exceed 10 cm (4 inches) in depth. NOTE: The greater the compaction, the better the patch.
STEP 3: Curing: Repair may normaily be used after 3 to 7 days. However, hardening is prolonged in warm weather.
Tips for working with SAKRETE Asphalt Repair:
- Compact in layers of 5 cm (2 inches) in thickness or less.
- ln cold weather, keep the bag in a warm place for at least 24 hours before using.
- ln warm weather, hardening is prolonged.
- The greater the compaction, the better the patch.
- When sealing, follow the manufacturers' directions.
- Use proper safety equipment (i.e. safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
